Your Facilitator, Julie Robinson.
A corporate leader veteran turned facilitator and coach, Julie brings over 25 years of corporate experience to her leadership development, team development and coaching.
Having worked at Director level at an airline, financial services company, online gaming business and as a non-executive at a logistics organisation, Julie has extensive experience in directing global teams in the development of world-class products and services, leading change, and turning strategy into operational results.
Consequently, she understands the thorny challenges of leadership and developing high-performing teams. Also having made a number of leadership transitions, she has experience of the skills and values required when transitioning through leadership levels.
Julie was keen to share her learnings with other leaders and thirteen years ago moved into her coaching and development role. Since then, she has facilitated learning interventions for different size groups of leaders at different levels in a wide variety of business segments.

Louise Long
Chief Executive - Inverclyde Council
Louise Long is the new Chief Executive of Inverclyde Council starting on 20th September 2021. Prior to this, Louise was the Chief Officer and Corporate Director for Inverclyde Health & Social Care Partnership. Inverclyde is a fully integrated partnership and includes all aspects of social care and including Adults, Children’s and Justice Services.
Louise graduated in 1996 as a Social Worker and later gained a postgraduate qualification in Child Protection and Leadership. Over the last 20 years, she has been a senior manager in a variety of Council settings.
Since 2002 she has managed Integrated Services as Manager of Addictions then obtained the post of Head of Children’s Services in South Ayrshire and Head of Children’s Services in Argyll. In 2016 Louise joined Inverclyde as Corporate Director. She was the Chair of the Programme Board responsible for building Greenock Health Centre on behalf of the Health Board.
Louise is committed to addressing inequalities and committed to improving the lives of the people in Inverclyde.
Joanna Killian
Chief Executive - Surrey County Council
Joanna was appointed Chief Executive of Surrey County Council in 2018. She has worked in partnership with the Council Leader, Tim Oliver, to modernise the council, building strong financial foundations and improving service quality for residents. Her focus on partnerships has enabled the council to contribute to a thriving Integrated Care System in Surrey, as well as building the to strengthen the economy, address the impact of climate change and tackle inequalities.
In June 2021, as part of the Government’s intervention of Liverpool City Council, Joanna was appointed by the Secretary of State as Local Government Improvement commissioner. Joanna currently holds this role alongside her SCC Chief Executive role.
Prior to joining SCC, Joanna worked at KPMG, where she led relationships with local and regional government, advising clients on how they could transform their organisations, and work more innovatively with their customers and citizens. Joanna and her teams worked on innovative devolution and public service reform programmes. Joanna worked with top teams to rethink their strategic ambition and agree new approaches to address the challenges and opportunities that the public sector faces, including with a county council, as well as a group of health organisations.
Joanna has more than 30 years’ experience in the public sector and has deep experience in delivering transformational change, cost reduction and service improvement. She has expertise in achieving improved outcomes through partnerships as well as across public sector systems. She has worked on leadership, governance and corporate reform programmes and is skilled in working in complex political systems.
Joanna joined KPMG in 2015 from Essex County Council, where she was the Chief Executive for nearly 9 years.
Joanna started her career in social housing and regeneration - she has deep knowledge and expertise in these fields.
In her spare time, she is Chair of Trustees at St Mungo’s, a large national charity with a mission to support people who experience street homelessness and eliminate rough sleeping.
Sharon Kemp
Chief Executive - Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council
Sharon Kemp is Chief Executive of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and was appointed by Government Commissioners and the Council in 2016 to lead improvements which have seen powers return and a ‘Good’ Ofsted rated Children and Young People’s Services in both 2018 and 2022.
Dedicated to serving people and places, Sharon has worked within the public sector for over 20 years across community safety, neighbourhood management, community cohesion, performance, and partnerships. Sharon also has an Honours Degree in Public Administration.
Sharon started her career within the Greater Manchester Police Force and moved into Local Government with the advent of the Crime and Disorder Act. Since then, Sharon has worked in a number of local authorities including 6 years in Blackburn and Darwen in the Regeneration Department and two years at the London Borough of Haringey as Assistant Chief Executive. Prior to arriving in Rotherham, Sharon was the Assistant Chief Executive for People and then Strategic Director (Reform) at Manchester City Council.
Since Sharon became Chief Executive of RMBC in 2016, Rotherham has made huge progress and remains committed to a journey of continuous improvement. This progress was recognised last year when Rotherham was awarded the Most Improved Council Award at the LGC Awards 2022. The judges unanimously agreed that ‘from a rock bottom position it is possible to rebuild the trust of the community through understanding, courage, and openness’. Rotherham Council continues to further improve as an organisation, having recently won the Public Sector Leadership Award at the Social Value Awards 2023 and the Public/Public Partnership Award at the LGC Awards 2023.
Karen Jones
Chief Executive - Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council
Karen Jones is the Chief Executive at Neath Port Talbot Council having spent the majority of her career in public service in Wales. Passionate about creating a great environment where people want to live, work and invest, Karen believes that people make the difference and is a strong advocate of collaborative working. While being the Chief Executive is her focus by day, Karen also enjoys the beautiful natural environment of Neath Port Talbot in her spare time, often to be found on hiking and cycling trails.
I joined Neath Port Talbot Council in 2002 and having held a number of different chief officer portfolios, I became the Chief Executive on 1st January 2021. I am passionate about creating an environment where people are proud to live and work and want to invest in our area. I believe that people make the difference and I am a strong advocate of collaborative working.
Prior to joining the Council, I was the Business Manager at Estyn and the Head of Corporate Strategy at South Wales Police. During my time at the Council, I have helped Social Services secure the best Joint Review outcome in Wales. I then led the Council’s corporate transformation programme, recognised by Academi Wales and APSE for the way in which we embraced systems thinking, to deliver better service performance at lower cost. In my last role, I led the Council’s work to embrace digital innovation, positioning us as an early adopter of the emerging Digital, Data and Technology model within Wales.
I am a graduate of the University of Wales, where I was awarded two masters degrees in Business Management and Human Resources Management and hold membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
